Sadie Mae Project

The Sadie Mae Project is a deeply personal suite of music that blends oral history and spontaneous composition to explore the journey of life. Each of the seven movements is inspired by an intimate story shared by someone close to me, beginning with my late grandmother, Sadie Mae, who grew up as the daughter of a sharecropper in rural Mississippi. The music is fully improvised first, then transcribed and refined, capturing raw emotion and storytelling through jazz. This project honors the resilience, struggles, and triumphs of everyday people, transforming their stories into powerful, living soundscapes through improvisation and collective expression.
